Which group suits you?

Not sure? Come along and ask — the Club Runs Co-ordinator will point you in the right direction.

A
Group A — beginners & returners
No experience needed · Very sociable · Arranged when needed
15–20 mi
Steady pace
This is our entry-level group ride, aimed at those who haven't been on a bike for a while or who are building towards riding with Group B. It's a very friendly and sociable ride with no expectation of prior group riding experience. An experienced club member will be on hand to offer advice on gear selection, road position, group riding skills and general cycling topics.
15–20 miles No experience needed Café stop Arranged on demand
B
Group B — short & long options
Medium pace · Café stop · Re-groups on hills
25–50 mi
10.5–12 mph
A sociable medium-pace ride that includes a café stop. The short option covers around 30 miles (approx. 3 hours riding time) and the long option covers around 45 miles (approx. 4 hours). Both rides re-group regularly — particularly after hills — making them accessible to riders still building fitness. A good stepping stone toward faster groups.

C
Group C — short & long options
Faster pace · Café stop · Routes often set on the day
40–70 mi
12–14 mph
For riders who want a quicker pace than Group B. A café stop is included. The short option covers 40–50 miles and the long option 50–70 miles, with the long ride typically aiming to be back by 15:00. Routes and café stop options are often decided on the day amongst those present, though a route planner usually agrees a route the week before.
40–70 miles 12–14 mph Café stop Back by 15:00 (long)
D
Group D — fast & far
Through and off · Tight twos · Gravel options
70–95+ mi
13.5–15.5 mph
Social but demanding. These rides require a decent level of fitness and bike-handling ability. The group rides in tight twos and uses through-and-off technique, which creates a smoother and faster ride — this takes discipline from the whole group. Don't worry if you haven't ridden like this before; other members will help you, though if you're not comfortable with this riding style, Group D is not for you right now.

Group D rides may start earlier than other groups and include gravel rides when conditions and routes are favourable.
